A [Different] Flickr Challenge

I feel like I’ve been boring the last few weeks.  Or more.  With the weather being icky, I don’t get out much.  And after the whirlwind of holidays, I don’t get out much.  I’m hoping this will all change in the next couple weeks since spring is lurking around the corner.  Fingers crossed.

I’ve been playing a lot on flickr, hoping to draw inspiration from others’ images.  Sure, I’ve been writing stuff down but until the weather turns for the better or I have a “model”, it probably won’t come true.  The weekly photo challenge keeps me on my  toes and I always look forward to Wednesdays but I needed something more.  And PodMate found it.

Back in January, PodMate (whose name is Susan and is fabulously fabulous by the way) pointed out a new flickr group called sixty-four colors.  Basically, they have a box of 64 Crayola crayons and every week, they select a new color.  Fun, no?  I love me some color challenges so I dived right in.  And then had nothing to offer.  Boo.

The idea isn’t just about great photography and composition, it’s about the hunt and discovery of the colors.  Jodi and Dani, the group administrators, encourage posters to use new photos from things they find with that color during the week.  Even though a few people pull out some oldies, it’s interesting to see how these photographers find the color and then snap their photo.

Since these are crayon colors and not just normal colors like red and blue, it can be hard finding the right hue or shade of a color.  Which is why I haven’t always had something to offer.  But if you’re interested, check out sixty-four colors on flickr and see what you can come up with.  Here’s some of the crayon colors I’ve been able to find:

Macaroni and Cheese – I had no idea this was a crayon color.

mail mail and more mail

Timberwolf – boring but gray to meet the criteria.

Need a push pin?

Brick Red – photo walk to the rescue.

Blue-Violet – whiskey to the rescue.

Crown Royal

And this week’s color, Robins Egg Blue.

Matchbox & Matches

Melissa - Macaroni and cheese is my favorite name for a crayon. They had a contest years and years ago to name new colors. Kids sent in their votes.. hence.. mac and cheese

shutterboo - It makes sense but it’s not a name I remember. I should dump out PodMate’s box and see what they’re all called. Just for shits and giggles.
