Oh, I HATE the phone. I'll deal with someone over IM or text or e-mail or in-person before I resort to the phone if I can. I think my preference for electronic means over the phone is centered around time management. If I'm on the phone with you, I can't do much else and I have to deal with you NOW. If you e-mail me, I can work you into whatever else I'm doing as I see fit. And 9 times out of 10 it'll take WAY less time than being on the phone.

The only people I really enjoy talking to on the phone are my family and friends that live far away - i.e., people I can't hang out with in person. I don't think this is a coincidence.

Unless you have a scheduled phone call time, whenever someone calls you are expected to immediately drop what you are doing and invest your time in that conversation. That's why texts and emails are great - you can read and reply on your schedule. I don't much like talking on the phone either. I'll end up sweeping the floor or doing the dishes while I'm talking, cause I can't just sit there and talk to someone I can't see. You don't realize how important facial expressions and hand movements are to a conversation until you don't have them.
But in person . . . you'll have to slap me to shut up!

I'm soooooo with you on this subject. I don't ever call anyone just to chat. I text, email, whatever. But calling - not so much. I talk to my mom on the phone and my sisters. But friends, acquaintances, clients, etc....please email or text! It's quicker and easier, and sooooooooo not awkward. I do talk on the phone when business requires it but I hate it all the time! LOL I have to make a business related phone call today that I'm dreading. I wonder what we would think of the phone if we were in this age in the 1980's and texting and email was not around....

HA! I'm the opposite. I loathe the phone. Since the invention of email, I say write it. I can multi-task w/ email, not so much with phone calls. Plus, I hate talking to people on the phone. Weird, right?

Right there with ya. Including the tween years where I could talk for hours on the phone about nothing. Now? Now people laugh if I say "call me." Doh!
