The Weekly Photo Challenge: Mission Complete

To see the new website and blog, visit Brooke Murphy Photography {here}!

It really came about because of my Big Bro.  Thanks Big Bro.

After searching the web to get an idea of how others had handled challenges, the list of 52 came to be.  A few friends signed on.  Then a couple internet friends.  And then some people I didn’t know.  OK, a lot of people I didn’t know.  Some have stayed along for the entire ride; others have fallen off the bandwagon [some hopped back on… and maybe fell back off…].  But this was only a challenge, a personal challenge to push yourself and see what you could create with your camera.  Not a contest – no contest at all – only a challenge.

Photo Challenge Mosaic

For me, this challenge was about going out into the world, finding the subject or color and seeing it differently.  Not digging back through my archives but actually hunting and relishing in the find.  There were times I panicked and shot the first pink thing I could find.  Other times I had several shots but nothing seemed special.  And of course the times when planning helped and a stellar shot was born.  (Thank you anonymous model.)

But my favorites were when an idea struck like lightening – and in an instance I had something I was really proud of when one minute before it didn’t exist.  There were only a few of those but I still remember how I felt when I took every photo.

Isn’t that the point of photography?  Not only looking at the image and remembering the moment but the feeling you also felt when you looked through the viewfinder?  That’s what I believe.  But little ol’ me is just a little ol’ blogger that’s a little ol’ hobbyist… but I do believe it’s more than just the pixels you freeze in time.

I wanted to include a post that would reference to my personal journey through The Weekly Photo Challenge.  That post would be really, really long.  And possibly really, really boring.  So instead I created a mosaic of my favorites over the past year.  And some fun facts about my challenge photos:

  • 4 photos include my doggins.
  • 4 include friends and 2 include family.
  • 8 photos include my fantastic co-workers (including Edward)
  • 4 are self-portraits
  • Taken at home: 15
  • Taken at work: 21
  • Taken in a bathroom: 3

All 52 are D-O-N-E done.  All of my challenge photos can be viewed in my Flickr set.  Below, I’ve linked every blog post if you feel like doing a little reading.

It’s a sweet feeling of satisfaction, that’s for sure.

Wendi @ Bon Appetit Hon - Boo, it’s been great watching the challenge over the last months. In a perfect world, I’d have myself together enough to join in the fun. Maybe some day.

Thanks for sharing pieces of your world with us.

Victoria - Wonderful mosaic! Do you miss it yet?
Even though I dropped in after it started (hmmm… looks like week #14 was when I had a legit submission) I am proud that I was able to finish with you and the other challengers.
And this challenge was just the thing to get my creative blood going again. I looked forward to it every week, despite dropping out for those few weeks. Kids + summer vacation = craziness.
I have no idea how I found shutterboo’s weekly photo challenge! Somehow across the interwebs I fell upon your blog on a Wednesday. And I just happen to have my own camera. Wasn’t that lucky?
I think so.

p.s. my project is in the making and folks will be getting their surprises early next week :)

katie o. - Is it weird that I even though the contest ended last Wednesday, I still scooted over here hoping to see something photo challenge related. Guess the stars were in alignment for me this morning.

And even though I bailed towards the end, I still enjoyed it. And I will finish the project. May not be this week, but all of those subjects will be photographed and added to the flickr challenge page.

Joan Nova - Though I discovered this challenge more than halfway through, I must say I loved it and looked forward to each new assignment. Thanks again.

Cheeseme13 - I found the photo challenge more than halfway through as well and enjoyed it immensely. I couldn’t wait to login and see how others expressed themselves and if comments were left on my “shots”. I loved searching for the topic representation each week and sharing my finds with others who might get a kick out of them as well. Although we were suppose to submit photos only taken the week of the challenge, I couldn’t resist sharing a few older pictures that I thought related to the topic. Thank you for hosting this creative romp Shutterboo!! …and thanks to everyone who shared their creations with the rest of us!

janis - beautiful mosaic! I wished I have come across this sooner, but then again, i have the feeling that i won’t go through it and that will make me very disappointed!

Maybe I should start one myself. and see how it goes.

Ben - Great job! Love all the photos. I sometimes think that I’m a little bit too ambitious trying to shoot photos at a daily pace, but it forces the photographer in me to think outside the box, and to prevent any laziness from setting in :).

Nothing beats that moment when you become inspired and you get a string of awesome photos :).

ericaJ - Wow congratulations! You’ve inspired me to start a project of my own!

Larimie - Thanks so much for sharing the challenge! It really has kept me on my toes. Although I started mine at the first of the year I still feel connected to everyone involved. Love all the inspiration!

cynthia - Congrats! I wanted to get on the bandwagon but could never find my footing. Your challenge was inspirational and I was sad (though happy for you) that week 52 came without me completing a single theme. I’ve since started a 52-week project of my own but kept checking your site to see if you’d restart your challenge. Thanks for sharing your photos. I love your mosaic of your favourite images and your humour and openness. Cheers.

Brooke - Thanks Cynthia. I’m planning on kick-starting another challenge with the new year – I think we’d be able to wrangle up a lot more players. More players means more bloggy friends. It’s win-win. :)
