Le Blog, Meet Awesomeness

It’s all abuzz here in Louisville.  “Have you been to the new arena yet?”  I can say now, “Yes.  I have.”

The KFC Yum! Center is the shizz.

The hubs and I got public tour tickets and on Tuesday took the self-guided tour through all four levels of arena-goodness.  The name may be wonky – but we do live in the state where Colonel Sanders mixed those 11 herbs and spices together for the first time.  But it’s just a name.  The facility itself is like whoa.

What we found so interesting is how many  bars there are.  You read right: bars.  Not just concessions but actual bars.  Some can only  be accessed through special areas but seriously, there are a lot of bars.  But none on the poor man’s level… we only got concessions.  I won’t complain as long as I can have some Hot Brown Bites.

If you have seats on the lower level of the arena, you can visit the private bars.  On one side is a vodka bar.  On the other, a bourbon bar.  I have to say I like the bourbon bar better – the design is much more rich and inviting.  And they have Old Fashions.

Vodka, anyone?

Pass me an Old Fashion, por favor.

We, of course, had to climb all the way to the top to see what court would look like from seats we could actually afford.  It’s far.  It’s kind of steep.  I still say it’s no Conseco-steep.  And it was nice sitting up there alone.  I could totally take a nap up on the tippy top.

Behind is wall.  In front is lots and lots of steps.

The memorabilia was really neat to walk through.  So many photos and old jerseys and… well… meet Dr. Dunkenstein’s brother’s favorite: Dr. Funkenstein.  But seriously, who doesn’t like the Doctors of Dunk?

Lady Gaga before there was a Lady Gaga?

I would have liked to see the locker rooms but no dice.  And I would have liked to have my picture taken with Angel McCoughtry but people were in my way.  We are going back on Sunday for the Red & White Scrimmage so maybe then.  Or at the women’s Tennessee game in a couple weeks.  It’s happening, internet – I will get my picture with Angel.

J. Smith - Duncan and I call it “The Bucket”. I think you should too.

Brooke - Jackie, I REFUSE to do that. I hate that there’s a bucket on the second floor by the ridiculously priced KFC concession.

Amy - That is George Clinton, my dear, and he was gaga before the Lady was even born.
That place is huge and seriously shiny. I bet it has that new arena smell, before it starts to smell like stale beer, fried food and sweat.

Brooke - Amy, you’re right. Needs an edit.
I have to say I was disappointed to see stains on the concrete already. There was an Eagle’s concert on Saturday.

Dawn - That is a GORGEOUS facility, although the super-steep steps sort of give me the willies just thinking about them. (I’d do it, but only if there was a railing I could hang on to for dear life.)

katie o. - wow, that’s one impressive arena. not sure if there’s enough booze there though. kidding of course.

Brooke - Katie, Coach Pitino did say this was one of the thirstiest cities he’s been in when they cut the ribbon.

elizabeth - I’m thinking the po’ folks don’t need any booze if they have to climb all those steep steps!! Good grief! I’d be the first to roll all the way back down them…and you know what that would mean: spilled vodka everywhere.
All in all, I think the poor folks were taken into consideration when they built the place. Very thoughtful of the Yummies.

Anamaris - I love Woodford Reserve. That’s all. Cool stadium.

L Johnverrell - Wow, great pictures! Yum! is impressive to say the least. Shutterboo, we are the webmasters for Angel35Fans.com, a fansite for Angel McCoughtry and would like to know if you could give us permission to use your pictures in a blog post on the site to show Angel and her fans. Also, if you are going to the Cards/Vols game–which I’ll bet you are–could you be our eyes and ears for Angel’s jersey retirement–pretty please! :)
