Week 1: Electricity

I was gung-ho when the week started.  Cross my heart stick a needle in my eye.  I couldn’t wait to find the perfect “electricity” shot.  But a nagging cough stood in between me and my perfect shot.  The cough had a name Friday afternoon: acute bronchitis.  Say what?

My New Years Eve plans were ruined as I didn’t want to make anyone else sick or annoy them with my old man hacking.  (Because I definitely sound like an old man hacking.)  I sent the hubs out but I stayed home.  But while at home, I continued my quest for the perfect shot.  (I also continued my quest for dunking animal crackers into peanut butter drenched mini chocolate chips.  Don’t judge me – I was ailing.)  The doggins always give me funny looks when I pull out the tripod (and the peanut butter) but I needed the steady base to experiment.  And that we did.

Here is my electricity:

Week 1: Electricity

Electricity gives us light.  Light is photography.  This chica settled in for exposure fun time while turning the light off and on and off and on and off and on… you get my drift.  The doggins were confused as to what I was doing so they decided to take a nap in the middle of my experimenting.  (They bounced back to life when they saw me reach for the peanut butter.)  After sorting through my images, this one took the cake.  I increased the curves on it some to make the bulb a bit brighter and laid in some layers for some final touches.  I have to say I’m pretty pleased with my first shot.

OK.  I’m ready for week 2.  Bring it.

Week 2’s subject is JOY.  Stellar subject.  I love festive gaiety.  Have it by next Wednesday, January 12th, or be square.

Go check out how others’ captured “electricity” in the Flickr group.  Don’t be afraid to leave a comment… you might even make a new friend.  Have fun!

Elizabeth - I’ve ALREADY failed!!! I had really great intentions of submitting a photo, but ka-blam! My week had completely blind-sided me… ugh. Sorry!
I promise I will be a better participant this next week!
Have a great day!

Tom B. Taker - Tis ok, Elizabeth. It’s never too late. We’re willing to wait a bit to see what you come up with. No fair peeking at what was already posted for ideas, though! :)

Week #1 was a blast and I’m really excited by all the great photos the group came up with. Week #2? Methinks it is really going to step up the challenge. Joy? Yikes.

Nice pic, Boo!

cynthia - Oh, wow! Cool shot and processing. I had a total brain fart and thought Week One started next week. I did take a quick snap of a hydro pole while tobogganing with my boys this aft but I was toting the point & shoot so … anywhoo … my dog ate my homework. I posted my crappy photo on my blog but won’t be adding it on your Flickr group coz it just totally sucked. I’m all psyched for next week’s Joy challenge though.

January 6, 2011 - 8:40 am

Victoria - I was sick over New Year’s too. Only, I had the flu. I tweeted you, or maybe that was a illness induced hallucination? It hurt to lift the camera. I did get my 365 in though :)
Awesome capture. Perfect for the first week. A light bulb coming back on.

My question is… do your neighbors wonder? When they see lights off, then on, then off, on, off, on, off….
I know my neighbors already know I’m weird. I just want company.

January 6, 2011 - 10:04 am

Carson Matthews - still wondering how you got that shot…love it

January 6, 2011 - 2:01 pm

Denise - I can’t believe I already missed Challenge 1!!!!! Dangit!!! When’s the next going to be posted?

Cool shot by the way.. sorry I got distracted while I was kicking myself.

January 7, 2011 - 9:13 pm

omawarisan - I don’t know that I’d have thought of doing that. Yes I do, I know I wouldn’t have, but I like the result

January 9, 2011 - 2:19 pm

Brooke - Joy won’t be hard – YOU CAN DO IT!
Vic – I felt HORRIBLE. And yes, my neighbors probably think I’m nuts but I’m OK with that.
Katie – You better get the lead out!
Tom – You’re kind of scaring me. You’re being so… upbeat. ;)
