Here’s the thing about the weekly photo challenge: it sounds like a year is a long time but it flies by fast. We’re already four weeks in – that’s a month, people. I know we have forty something to go but the weeks are already sailing by.
I’ve had my idea for this week’s subject since I saw it on the list and with it snowing every five seconds around here, it was the perfect idea because I didn’t have to leave my house. On Saturday, I got my happy butt out of bed early(ish), cleaned up, put on make up and painted my nails. Five different colors. Genius! I set up my tripod, had the hubs sit in for me while I focused and let the self-portrait-dom commence.
It was a fail. Fail to the max. The tripod, for one, started getting shaky. The head had already come loose once so I epoxied it back on for it to only come loose a second time. I shared my sad news with Mrs. Rev and her reply? “You used your tripod?” Smartass. I improvised with a table and a stack of books but it did no good – my shots were crap.
Too dark. Too far away. Too zoom. Too high. Too low. Too “the camera can’t see your colorful fingernails, dummy.” I had to bust out Plan B. Which happened to include my self-made light box (thanks to Mrs. Rev).
Here’s my colorful:
Well… I had all this fingernail polish so I made it the model instead of me. (Is it a still life? I never know what to call stuff.) It took a couple of go rounds too because the pink bottle topper would do nothing but roll around (which makes for a nervous Brooke because if it had landed on the carpet I might have fainted). I did what any other girl would do and dug into my craft stash to find the double sided tape and shazam! all the little doodads are lined up in a pretty little row.
I can’t remember what all I did in Photoshop (I have a bad habit of flattening as I go) but I did play around with The Pioneer Woman’s “colorized” action. If you haven’t checked out her free PS and Element actions, you should because they’re terribly fun and wickedly free so get on with your bad self and check it out.
Now there is LOADS of color over in the Flickr group WPC Flickr Group. So many great ideas, great photography, great people. Again, I can’t get over how kind everyone is – THANK YOU FOR BEING AWESOME PEOPLE, PEOPLE! And don’t forget about the Challenger Roll – so many great blogs and I’ve already gotten hooked a few.
Moving on, Week 5’s subject is SIGN. Zoinks. I have no flipping clue. I might have to venture out in the cold for this one and me thinks I’ll need snow boots. Boo January weather, boo.
Make the best of it, be adventurous, be clever and happy snapping!
