Week 11: Curves

Some weeks I have no problem jotting down ideas.  This was one of those weeks.  I think it has to do with the fact that “curves” are everywhere and can make a photograph interesting.  I set out over the weekend and Monday to capture my back up submission in case my favorite idea didn’t pan out.  But it did.

Here is my curves:

Week 11: Curves

I’m like a broken record over here, but I am surrounded by the best people in the world.  Abby’s pretty high up on that list… you have to be when 21 years pass and they hold absolutely nothing against you.  She was the perfect awesome model for this week’s subject too.  As the grand master poet Sir Mix-a-Lot once said, “Cause your waist is small and your curves are kickin”.  Yes indeedy.

Abs followed me home after our dinner with gal pals and I had her lay out on my bed.  My intention was to create a silhouette with her body but I didn’t exactly achieve that.  I experimented with the light and manually focused so that her curves would be in focus but I just couldn’t black out her shape completely.  After about 15 minutes of shooting, I decided I had enough to play with.  Once they were up on the computer, the image took on a different story than I intended, but I love it.  I feel like I’m the fly on the wall.

I can’t wait to check out the WPC Flickr Group – I already saw that Whitney has posted some yummy ribbon candy [which makes me want to go to Schimpff’s now].  Check out her blog and other folks’ who post every week in the Challenger Roll.

And now we move on to Week 12… our new subject is PAST.  This could be interesting.  Have fun, push yourself and keep on experimenting.  Meet you back here next week!

DOO DOO - Any time you want to make a silhouette the first thing is to measure the amount of light coming though the window. The second is how far is the subject away from the light source. The third thing is how close is the subject to anything that can reflect light back onto the subject. If you want total black silhouette place the subject as close to the light source and turn off any lights and get rid of any reflective source, (metal, white material and mirrors) these will cause the light coming in through the window to reflect back on to the subject. If you want to see any of the subjects dark side you need to gradually open your F-stops to let the light show more of your subject. I find that the smallest stop works best with a long exsposure time to get the best results
