Week 16: Simple

Simple: natural, uncluttered, straightforward, not difficult, modest.

Needless to say, we had a lot of wiggle room this week.  A lot of room for interpretation.  And you can really tell if you flip through the WPC Flickr group.  But I wanted to focus on the clean, the uncluttered idea.  To me, that’s what simple is.  Something that, when you look at, your eye goes directly to the intended focal spot.

Here is my simple:

Week 16: Simple

A simple set up for sure, but my goals were met.  Your eye is on the spools.  On the colors.  Nothing else around them matters.

The thing I love most about this shot is that I didn’t do any layering.  I didn’t fancy up the image with colors and bumps and texture.  I shifted my curves to make it tad lighter and then increased the contrast a smidge.  I did play around with some layering and whatnot but I kept coming back to this one.  And, after all, this week is supposed to be simple.

Now mosey on over to the Flickr group – there are so many interpretations and lovely photographs this week.  Next week marks our 17th week of the photo challenge!  It flies by, people.  And for Week 17 our subject will be RURAL.  I smell a field trip.

Susan - Love these colors! Especially with the muted colors in the background – very nice. I need to retake mine today, it just didn’t come out right. (Also – rural? really? Hoo-boy.)

Tana @ Rise With the Sun - I love this shot and focus of it!

I really like your explanation for simple and that it means that your eyes go straight to the focal point–spoken like a true photographer!. I suppose if we really defined “simple” to ourselves, this week’s theme might have been easier.

And I agree, it is indeed time for a field trip. Good luck on yours!
