It’s June. I cannot believe it’s already June. Happy June, people.
I need you to know that I tried my darnedest this week. I pushed myself. I really, really did. No lies. I set up a self-portrait thinking my brunette hair would make a great photo. It didn’t. It was flat. Completely flat and void of anything creative. I was a bit disappointed but I declared I would try again. So I made cookies and set up the light box thinking cookies always make an excellent subject. It didn’t. It lacked something… inspiration? Because they definitely didn’t lack cocoa.
I tried a third time, bringing texture into the shot with the heaps of twine I currently have all over the house. Nope. Something was off and I couldn’t put my finger on it. I can’t say that I didn’t try this week, because I did. But the photo I got when I wasn’t trying happened to be my favorite.
Here is my brown:
My morning cup of joe at the office, in the holiday cup I use when the happy birthday mug is out of commission. (The happy birthday mug is in commission today instead.) My one sugar, two creams keep me alive in the mornings. It’s a part of my Monday through Friday that I look forward to.
So the question I began pondering was: Why is this image the one I like most? Is it because it’s familiar? Because it’s real? Because I consumed it like my life depended on it after the shutter snapped?
The answer I think it is: I wasn’t awake yet.
But I still like it.
Don’t forget to visit the Flickr group to see how everyone else captured “brown.” The color challenges are like open ended questions so I can’t wait to boogie over there myself and start commenting. For our next trick known as Week 23, our new subject will be OPEN. Good luck and happy snapping!!
