I love surprises.  The idea of making something super secret, building an idea behind close doors only to deliver a bomb of happiness and cheer to the expecting party.

Julie and Eli.  Mother and son.  All in the effort to surprise dad.  Yeah, I love surprises.  This was a Father’s Day surprise.

Being that we’re both alumnae, Julie and I get to keep each other’s company at gatherings, meetings and this last time, a wedding.  We caught up on our families and the new happenings in our lives.  She told me about her new adventure, becoming an independent interior designer with her partner and their new business Studio Threesixty.  And I told her about my new little adventure here.  After a few email conversations, Julie said she wanted to surprise her husband with photos of her and her little man.  I had something to look forward to as Julie’s little boy is a cutie.

We met early one morning while dad was away and got to playing at home.  Eli is the sheriff of this town.  At 16 months, he was zipping everywhere, taking in everything he possibly could, as fast as he could.  He was like a pinball, bouncing off every surface he came into contact with.  I thought three-year-olds were fast, but keeping up with this little man was hard work.  I don’t know how you moms do it.  Pinballs and pitter-patters aside, we were able to capture some photographs I think dad would be proud of.

I love looking through this session.  Eli is still a babe but so much personality already shines through.  And with a smile like that, it feels like it comes from his heart.  His smiles makes me smile.  They’re contagious.  I hope Geoff had fun with his surprise and a wonderful Father’s Day with his piece of heaven on Earth.  Same for all the dads out there, new and old.  Any man can become a father, but it takes someone special to become a dad.

katie o. - I totally agree with Shelly B. The stair shot is my favorite. Not to get too technical, but the composition is great and the light and shadows work so well! Brooke, have I mentioned lately how I am totally loving your work???

Brooke - It was snack time and he took a seat on the stairs. He’s the sheriff. And such a cutie!!!!

Todd - I really, really, really like the black-and-white pictures, especially that shot of him looking up. Black and white is so much more expressive than color, I think. We just got Thing 2’s preschool pictures. The posed shot is nice, but the black-and-white shot of him on his trike with his Spider-Man helmet is the kind of picture you grab and take when you when the tornado’s coming.
