I love his expression and I love your explanation for wanting to catch the essence of a person in their own element than a portrait alone. I was trying to go for the same type of understanding a person without really seeing them kind of thing.

Kids are indeed hilarious! They’ve called me out on so many things (they were mostly my own doing) but it does catch you off guard when they do. I used to be a camp counselor for 7 year old kids and I used to have my hair down ALL the time. One day I decided to braid it. The kids that day were like “Teacher, you look different.” “Teacher, are you even my teacher?” “Teacher, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?” Kids. [insert sighs]
