The past few years, Abby and I have had Fair Day. A day where we do nothing but enjoy the Kentucky State Fair. We usually start with late breakfast and end with elephant ears and beers. And it’s a perfect day. Not only because we get to enjoy everything the fair offers but because we get to enjoy each others company. So this year we set out at a leisurely pace with Paco. It was a good day.
We walked past the sheep and the cows. And we got to pet a baby cow.
He’s only one month old. The one to the right is two months old. He wasn’t the petting kind.
Then we made our way through the textile, photography and art exhibits… with a quick stop in culinary…
Those are some might fine balls. Too bad that one got a little melty because it ain’t so pretty. It might have cost me the blue ribbon. Because we know the taste didn’t suffer.
I saw this lady drop of this cupcake stand. Yes, those are cupcakes. Even the sunflower on top. I was impressed.
And I totally want to eat the robin’s nest.
So the best thing about going to the fair with Abby is we do silly fair things. One year we watched the rooster crowing contest (not as exciting as you’d think it be, believe me). Another year we caught a juggling act and ladies with chainsaws. We always admit we miss the racing pigs but this year’s silly show was twice as nice…
… because Abby was called up on stage.
That’s Dashing Dave. He smelled love in the air and it ended up being on Abby’s hand. She became his short-term assistant. He taught her the poses. He taught her how to the hold the ladder he was going to climb.
And then she became a seasoned short-term assistant.
Of course, there were laughs at her expense. Need a little comedic value to keep the kiddies entertained. And I will say all his jokes that played off Abby’s paramedic profession were pretty good.
Dashing Dan is up, is balanced. Abby’s prepared for him to fall back down on her, apparently.
And as she strikes her second pose with a rose in her hand, she learns that a whip is involved… and that’s what the video is for:
Yep. A good day indeed.
