Our good friends Erik and Laura brought baby Claire into the world this September. The hubs and I were delighted for them (as we are for all of our friends who happen to make the leap into parenthood), but to hear how excited their families were about the new addition makes me smile. Hearing the “oohs” as gifts were opened at her shower, getting to see the artwork Erik’s sister made for the nursery, flipping through the children’s books that were gifted from church-friends in Greensburg, reading all the notes on Facebook from family all over – these two were in a sea of love and their families were extremely proud of them.
Laura asked me if I could do her and her sister, Cara, a favor. Being that she already had two older nieces, she thought that her parents would enjoy a photo of all the grandchildren. I, of course, obliged. I’d get to see my friend, spend time with Claire and hang out with Macy and Ally who I hadn’t seen in a few years. We stepped out in their backyard for some photos, even got some of Cara’s family, and then we moved inside to hang out. And then it got cute.
My friend Laura, her sister Cara and their daughters.
That’s so funny to say. “Their daughters.” Makes me get a little soft inside.
Ally and Macy with their new baby cousin, Claire.
A favorite. I held Claire’s stare for only a couple seconds, but I love it.
I also think she looks a lot like her daddy in this picture.
And this is Cara’s family. So sweet together, you can see how the girls love on both their parents. Reminds me of when I was little.
These next two shots of Ally and Macy are favorites as well. They’re adorable little girls. Black bows and all.
And my friend, Laura, with her new little girl. She’s a good momma. And my heart swells when I hear her talk to Claire. It’s so sweet. Especially when I know she goes to work in a hard hat.
Inside, the girls were soooo excited to hold Claire again. We had them climb in the chair together first and then they took turns holding their baby cousin by themselves. Macy is a pro – she just propped Claire up and even later fed her a bottle.
And Ally… she had just finished holding Claire and loved the way her arms smelled. “It smells like baby,” and then she’d take a deep breath in. Her eyelashes may have fluttered a little too.
Cara is such a happy aunt. Can’t blame her – I love being an aunt too. She showered Claire with kisses the whole time I was there and was more than happy to burp her after her midday snack. I think her smile says it all.
Having family nearby is nice. You see them often, share meals and catch up. But having a supportive family, one that looks forward to your celebrations, one that’s willing to drop everything to help you and one that just pours out love… it’s irreplaceable. And Erik and Laura are lucky enough to have something that precious.
