That One Time I Went to Atlanta {the bad}

So as great as visiting Katie was {you can read about that here}, we actually had a very bad thing happen to us while photographing a wedding Saturday night.  It sucks, it makes me mad and I’m still moping about it – but I can’t do anything about it.  (I think that’s what makes me the most frustrated.)

So we were at the Chastain Horse Park Saturday evening, capturing the reception of Jennifer and Ryan.  The place was beautiful, the flowers gorgeous, the people so kind…

ATL, you are HOT!An Instagram share of the gorgeous bride and groom, Jennifer and Ryan.

But after photographing the bride and groom exiting the reception, we hightailed it to the car at 10:15pm.  Only to see that Katie’s passenger window had been busted out.  And my extra camera bag missing.

Luckily, none of my equipment was in my green Kelly Moore bag. I had some extra lens caps, a battery charger, a remote and some posing guides I’d drawn.  But unfortunately, my wallet, my sweet shades and my oh-so-good-music-mix on my iPod were in the bag too.  My ID, bank and credit cards, insurance cards, random gift certificates… gone.  Boo.  I was so angry, worried about getting on the airplane home the next day and just full-on pissed that people do this stuff.

Everything in that bag had no meaning to them, was of no value.  Sure, they probably kept my sweet shades and iPod, but there wasn’t any cash.  The cards were shut off in an hour (though they were still able to purchase gas).  But what does a thug do with a camera bag that looks like a purse?  He throws it away.  And it makes me sad to think that my bag and my wallet are probably on the side of the road or in a trash bin.  Asshats.

The kicker is that I usually travel light.  I barely ever take my entire wallet when I travel.  In fact, I didn’t even have my purse or keys in Atlanta, just my wallet.  This could have been avoided.  But it happened.  In Chastain Park, a nice neighborhood.  And Katie had to deal with the worry of her car being compromised and work with insurance to get it repaired.  But from what everyone at the airport told me, this is normal for Atlanta.  And that makes me plain sad.

Boo Atlanta, boo.  So far, I’m unimpressed.

Susan - Oh, no! I was worried when I saw “the good” subtitle that there might be a “the bad” follow up, but I wasn’t expecting this! What a hassle and a bummer. :(

Jenn - Ahh! I’m so sorry to heard that! People are jerks.

On the upside, that photo is lovely, and I am so looking forward to seeing the rest of them.

But seriously, that sucks. I’m glad none of your equipment was in there!

Melissa - I am still hoping they fall in a hole for doing this to you two! I know when I lost my iphone, I hoped that someone good would find it. Instead some butt head stole it, and 4 months of photos and videos of my sweet boy. Took me a while to get past that part of my phone being gone. But I had to remind myself it’s just a phone.
Thank goodness it was “just” a car window and your stuff… and you guys didn’t get hurt. (though I am still mad for you too!!)

rachel - BOO! I am so sorry girl! I would definitely be upset if my ipod disappeared! But at least your music is backed up on your pc, right? I had a similar situation where someone broke into my truck at the movies in Southern Indiana. I even parked right under a street light! The only valuable thing they took was my work blackberry, but it was locked, so they defintiely couldn’t do anything with it! I hate theives!

Angie - Two things:
1. you came to Atlanta and didn’t tell me!? Boo to you – I would have loved to see your face!
2. I had a bad experience our first day when we moved here! The ‘movers’ we used stole my engagement ring from our master bath! Ugh…I’m not over it, and I hate that some girl is probably wearing it. :(

Despite the bad, there are some good things. Like your photos! :) Hugs!
