These Boots Were Made For…

Yeah, yeah, I know that song is totally overused but the only other one that comes to mind is Boot Scootin’ Boogie.  And it is too early in the morning to even to think about line dancing music.  Yick.

I’m still sorting through my family photos from two weekends ago.  I took that many photos and I am really really tired.  So tired that I don’t even want to sit in front of the computer to look at the kiddos’ smiling faces.  Sad, huh?  I think all of my mental worries are finally catching up with me physically.  Which is why I did nada yesterday and it was glorious.  But Monday has come too soon.  Boo Monday, boo.

Back to the boots.  My oldest niece, the angry one, wears cowgirl boots.  I think this magnificent.  Mostly because when I was 14 there was no way on this green earth I’d wear cowgirl boots and not think the entire universe was laughing at me.  I was very self-conscience and needed [insert whatever in the hell was popular in 1996].  I was already an uber-dork and had worn uber-dorky glasses for half of my life, shoes mattered.  Why?  I have no idea now [as I sit at my desk wearing my cute little brown and blue moccasins].  But the angry one sports her boots.  And she makes it look good.

Boot Yah

She wore these bad dogs all day and we went for a LONG walk through their little home town.  Her boots kept shuffling along.  As did the little elf that wanted no part of her stroller.  Her two little two year old legs kept on trucking.  And she didn’t even take a nap afterwards.  She laughs in the face of naps.  I, on the other hand, was ready to pass out, especially after I ate some dinner.  I’m getting old.

Boots boots boots.  I wonder what I would look like in cowgirl boots?  Then I could be all cowgirl/indian girl and swap out my boots for my moccasins and it would be like wild wild west peace on my feet.  Right?

bro - I recommend Ariat. It may be blasphemy to recommend boots made in china (designed in US?) but most major brands have moved a significant amount of production into china and Ariats are damned comfortable for the price. I like my pair almost look like the ones pictured.

This aunt is riding the cool bus, kids.

Back To Normal

Today has been glorious.  I’m glad I didn’t lose my groove after last Sunday.  Things are back to normal.  How you ask?

1.  I didn’t get out of bed until 11:30am.  Believe me, I needed my beauty sleep.

2.  I made pancakes for breakfast/lunch with a side of – you guessed it – BACON!  The OJ was quite satisfying too.

3.  The doggins have gotten over the fact that the hubs was gone all last week on business and realize that I still exist.  I love my furry little breathing balls of heat.  I’ve been freezing for the past two days because they were all over the hubs.  Just wait until he leaves again.

4.  I’ve watched something like seven movies today and two really weren’t worth my time.  But that didn’t make me turn them off.

5.  Mom and DAd stopped by unannounced.  And nobody mentioned the fact that I was still in my pajamas.

6.  I had parmesan popcorn for dinner with a sugar cookie for dessert.  Divine, no?

7.  It’s after 8pm and I’m still in my pajamas.  It’s the life my friends, it’s the life.

All this means is that I need to get my rear in gear tomorrow and photograph something that screams SPEED because I got diddly squat right now.  I got two tricks up my sleeve: the hubs and the doggin that can hear.  Let’s hope they pay off.  Otherwise we’re going to have another snoresville photo from this gal right here.  *fingers crossed*

Tres Sobrinas y El Sobrino

I love my big brothers kids.  They are all so funny and so much fun to be around.  I don’t think they realize just how cool they are but these are some cool kiddos.  There are four in total, from 14 to 2 years old, three girls and one boy.  And I love them.  Even if they think I’m a dork.  I’m cool with that. *flashes peace sign*

My oldest niece is coming into her own and is such a beautiful girl.  I envy her long gorgeous hair – my hair will never look like hers and I’m completely jealous.  My sister-in-law refers to her as “the angry one.”  It suits her – she’s a teenager, I’d be pissed too.  But my favorite thing about my oldest niece is that she does not hold back on the jokes.  Love it.  You can tell we’re related.

i heart these kiddos

My nephew – the only boy besides Big Bro – has an old soul.  He comes off as reserved, takes care of his Hot Wheels as if they were diamonds and is amazing with his sisters.  I’ve never met a child, let alone a boy, that cares so much about how others feel.  If you give him a gift, it’s “exactly what he wanted.”  Such a sweetheart.  He’ll have the girls melting in his hands in no time.

My second oldest niece – the monkey – is a spitting image of my brother.  He sure does make a pretty girl.  Seriously though, this is what my brother looked like when he was her age, only not with shoulder-length red hair.  That didn’t come until high school when mullets were all the rage.  This monkey is incredibly goofy and reminds me of myself quite often.  She’s also incredibly easy to bribe – this kid will do anything for a dollar.  And she has.  And she’s made money off me.  And it was worth it.  I love this goofy girl.

The newest addition to the brood is the youngest girl and she’s a cute little elf.  I haven’t had the chance to spend as much time with her as the other kiddos as she doesn’t travel to Louisville like the older monsters.  She does the funniest things though and has no problem telling you exactly what she wants you to do.  And she can cut quite the rug.  She was jamming to David Bowie’s Under Pressure and it was hilarious.  I can’t wait until she’s four and I can get her to do things for a dollar.

Love them, love them, love them.  I don’t visit too often because I hate riding in the car but looking through all of my pictures makes it worth it.  I’m looking forward to the holidays with my family and hopefully the little elf will be better at opening gifts come her birthday and Christmas.

Thanks for letting Mom and I invade your home for the day, Big Bro – we miss you guys already.

Week 7: Map

Maps were kind of hard to find, no?  We have a few hanging around our office, I saw a couple on a walk in big brother’s little town, but for the most part they are not in abundance.  Makes the challenge more challenging not being able to locate the subject.  Note to self…

Here is my map:

Week 7: Map

I walk past these posts every morning but I don’t pay much attention to the map.  Mostly because I know where I’m going.

North:  You walk into the Ohio River.

South:  You can walk blocks for miles.

East:  You get asked for cigarettes and/or directions.

West:  You’ll find a dozen little places to eat.  I usually go west.

Next week’s challenge is “speed.”  Will we see some motion shots?  Some still shots?  Interpretive shots?  I have no idea, but I’m excited!  Don’t forget to check out the flickr pool’s photos or click on the challenger roll to see everyone else’s photos.  And if you’re up for a scavenger hunt, join the Weekly Photo Challenge.

katie - I’m obsessed with the background of this photo. Really makes the steel posts stand out against the sky.

shutterboo - Obsess all you like – that’s work. Blah!
